Marco Reus joins LA Galaxy of MLS after 12 years with Borussia Dortmund

Marco Reus joins LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer after an impressive 12-year career at Borussia Dortmund, signing a contract that will keep him with the club until the end of the 2026 season.

At 35 years old, the midfielder departed his hometown club in May, where he made a significant impact, being honored as the Bundesliga Footballer of the Year twice, in 2012 and 2019.

During his international career, Reus earned 15 goals and provided 14 assists in 48 matches for Germany from 2011 to 2012. He played a pivotal role in Germany’s 2-1 victory over Sweden during the group stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, contributing with a goal and an assist.

His remarkable record at Dortmund includes 170 goals and 131 assists across 429 appearances, solidifying his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.

“Marco Reus is a world-class player who has excelled at the highest level of the sport,” stated Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz. “For Marco, a two-time Bundesliga Footballer of the Year, to join the Galaxy after spending his entire career in Germany highlights the ambitious project we are building at the club.”

Kuntz expressed excitement about Reus’s future contributions as the Galaxy gears up for the final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond.

The LA Galaxy secured Reus’s rights from Charlotte FC for $400,000 in general allocation money, having previously been in discussions about a potential move to Charlotte before he opted for the Galaxy.
