Daniel Oyefusi, ESPN’s reporter for the Cleveland Browns, highlighted a significant development for the team. The Browns and kicker Dustin Hopkins have secured a three-year, $15.9 million extension, making him one of the NFL’s top five highest-paid kickers. In the 2023 season, Hopkins showcased his prowess by making a franchise-record 33 of 36 field goal attempts, including a career-long 58-yard field goal, and setting an NFL record with five consecutive games of at least 50-yard field goals.
Previously facing career challenges, Hopkins turned things around after joining the Browns from the Los Angeles Chargers. This move was made just before the 2023 season in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick. Hopkins began his NFL journey with the Buffalo Bills in 2013 but struggled to find a stable position, being cut by Buffalo, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders. His time with the Chargers also ended abruptly, making his success with the Browns a notable comeback.
Despite missing the final two games of the regular season and a playoff loss to the Houston Texans due to a hamstring injury, Hopkins has fully recovered and actively participated in the team’s minicamp. Earlier this offseason, the Browns also re-signed Cade York, Hopkins’ predecessor. This series of strategic moves underscores the Browns’ commitment to strengthening their special teams unit.
