July 12 Heisman Favorites: Gabriel Surges Forward
Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel is now sharing Heisman co-favorite status with Carson Beck of Georgia, sitting at +750 odds. His odds improved significantly this week, pushing him past Texas QB Quinn Ewers, thanks to increasing interest from bettors. Gabriel, who spent two seasons at Oklahoma and previously played for UCF, emerged as a standout candidate with impressive stats, including 30 touchdown passes and a 70% completion rate in 2023.
Gabriel’s transfer to Oregon gives him a prime opportunity to shine. His 50-game career features 125 touchdown passes and 14,865 passing yards. During his time at UCF, he faced a season-ending shoulder injury in 2021 but continued to excel afterward. The potential to set the NCAA record for career passing yards is on the horizon, taking over an offense previously helmed by Heisman finalist Bo Nix, who threw for 4,508 yards last season.
Entering the 2024 season, Gabriel ranks eighth in career passing yards among quarterbacks. With early-season performances, he’s expected to climb to fourth place quickly. As he steps into a strong Oregon offensive unit, Gabriel not only aims for the Heisman but also eyes the NCAA career passing yards record.
