Pete Alonso Shines as Sole Mets Representative in All-Star Game

Pete Alonso Earns Surprise All-Star Selection

The Mets’ Pete Alonso has been named to the National League All-Star team as a reserve first baseman, ahead of Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo, who were not selected despite strong performances. Celebrating his third straight and fourth overall selection, Alonso expressed his gratitude and excitement.

Alonso, with a .243/.325/.464 slash line, holds four All-Star selections, surpassing Keith Hernandez for the most by a Mets first baseman. His inclusion means he’ll compete in the Home Run Derby, a contest he previously won in 2019 and 2021. Alonso’s consistent power at the plate continues to make him a game-changing player for the team.

Despite being snubbed, Lindor and Nimmo have shown strong performances. Lindor has a .763 OPS, while Nimmo boasts a .810 OPS, making their omission notable. Both players reflected on their exclusion, aiming for stronger starts in future seasons. Their continued contributions are crucial as the Mets push forward.
