Dick Vitale Faces Cancer for the Fourth Time with Determination: ‘I Will Win This Battle’

Dick Vitale Diagnosed with Cancer for Fourth Time

Longtime ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale revealed on social media that he has been diagnosed with cancer for a fourth time. A recent biopsy of a lymph node in his neck confirmed the presence of cancer, and he is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday. Vitale remains hopeful, stating, "With all the prayers I have received and the loving support of my family, friends, and ESPN colleagues, I will win this battle."

Vitale, who has been with ESPN since its inception in 1979, called the network’s first college basketball broadcast. His career has spanned decades, making him a familiar face and voice in the world of sports. In addition to his work on television, Vitale is a passionate fundraiser for cancer research.

In 1993, Vitale played a significant role in helping his friend Jim Valvano to the stage at the ESPYs, where Valvano delivered his inspirational "Don’t give up" speech. Valvano’s courageous fight against adenocarcinoma continues to resonate, as Vitale embarks on his own fight against cancer once again.
