Joel Klatt Reveals His Top 10 College Football Teams After Week 4: Who Made the Cut?

2024 college football rankings: Joel Klatt's top 10 teams after Week 4

2024 college football rankings: Joel Klatt’s top 10 teams after Week 4 are here, showcasing the dynamic landscape of college football.

Michigan’s thrilling match against USC marked an exciting entry for the Trojans into the Big Ten. Meanwhile, Colorado pulled off one of the season’s most dramatic victories, with Shedeur Sanders launching a Hail Mary touchdown pass to clinch an overtime win against Baylor. Illinois surprised Nebraska on the road, while both Clemson and Iowa demonstrated impressive dominance.

In the latest episode of the “Joel Klatt Show,” he shared insights on these games and is now ready to reveal his rankings of the top 10 teams in the nation after four weeks of action.

Let’s dive into the rankings!

1. Texas (Last week: 1)
Record: 4-0
Week 4 result: Defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 51-3

Texas remains at the top of the rankings, showcasing confidence in its quarterback situation, whether it’s Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning leading the offense. Manning has seamlessly stepped in, guiding the Longhorns to two consecutive victories. Ewers was previously highlighted as a prime Heisman contender before his injury.

The Longhorns’ offensive line and defensive unit continue to impress, especially after their strong performance against Michigan in Week 2, allowing just 10 points in the following two games.

2. Ohio State (Last week: 2)
Record: 3-0
Week 4 result: Defeated Marshall, 49-14

Ohio State RB Quinshon Judkins rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns in Week 4.

Ohio State’s receiving corps is unmatched, with their fourth-best receiver likely being a top target on any other team. However, concerns linger about the pass rush, as Marshall’s quarterback Stone Earle found some success in evading pressure.

Quarterback Will Howard’s performance raised eyebrows when he remarked, “Nobody’s going to complain about a 49-14 win.” In Columbus, fans expect more, and questions about the quarterback position remain after Howard’s interception.

Despite these concerns, Ohio State maintains its status as a formidable team, with a defense poised to deliver strong performances.

3. Miami (Fla.) (Last week: 3)
Record: 4-0
Week 4 result: Defeated USF, 50-15

Miami is emerging as a serious contender for the national championship. Quarterback Cam Ward showcased his skills by throwing for 404 yards and three touchdowns. His performance has propelled him to the forefront of the Heisman Trophy race, boasting impressive season stats of 1,439 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Miami’s offense has consistently scored over 40 points in each game while limiting opponents to 17 points or fewer.

4. Tennessee (Last week: 4)
Record: 4-0
Week 4 result: Defeated Oklahoma, 25-15

Tennessee’s victory over Oklahoma was a statement win. The game felt more one-sided than the final score suggested, primarily due to Oklahoma’s strong defense. Tennessee’s offense was impressive, leading 22-3 at one point in the fourth quarter.

The Volunteers’ defense has proven to be one of the best in the nation, adept at switching between coverage schemes and applying pressure effectively. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava, despite some early struggles, managed to perform well in his first true road start, showcasing potential for the season ahead.

Tennessee’s combination of a strong defense and a promising quarterback makes them a legitimate national title contender.

5. Georgia (Last week: 5)
Record: 3-0
Week 4 result: N/A

Georgia has faced criticism for its position at No. 5, but the performances of other teams in the top four have outshone the Bulldogs. Their last outing was a narrow 13-12 victory against Kentucky, raising concerns about injuries and their upcoming schedule.

6. Alabama (Last week: 6)
Record: 3-0
Week 4 result: N/A

Alabama is a solid team, but there are concerns about its defense allowing big plays. Although South Florida and Wisconsin failed to capitalize, the film showed vulnerabilities in the secondary. Quarterback Jalen Milroe and the offensive line are strengths for the Crimson Tide, indicating they remain a contender.

7. Ole Miss (Last week: 8)
Record: 4-0
Week 4 result: Defeated Georgia Southern, 52-13

Ole Miss has shown impressive form, with senior quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the charge. The Rebels have a favorable schedule this season, winning their first four games by an average of 49.5 points, solidifying their position in the rankings.

Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart has thrown for 1,552 yards, 15 touchdowns, and two interceptions in four games.

8. Penn State (Last week: 9)
Record: 3-0
Week 4 result: Defeated Kent State, 56-0

9. Oregon (Last week: 10)
Record: 3-0
Week 4 result: N/A

Oregon is gaining traction as a top contender. Following a bye week, they showcased a strong performance against Oregon State in Week 3. With quarterback Dillon Gabriel continuing to impress, the Ducks are poised for a strong run.

10. Utah (Last week: Unranked)
Record: 4-0
Week 4 result: Defeated Oklahoma State, 22-19

Utah made headlines with a significant road win over Oklahoma State, despite quarterback Cam Rising being sidelined due to injury. Freshman Isaac Wilson stepped up, leading the Utes to victory. This win puts Utah in a strong position within the Big 12, potentially positioning them as one of the top teams in the conference.
