2024 College Football Rankings Revealed: Georgia and Ohio State Dominate, Nebraska Makes a Surprising Entrance into the Top 25!

2024 college football rankings: Georgia, Ohio State on top; Nebraska cracks top 25

2024 college football rankings highlight Georgia and Ohio State at the forefront. As the third-best SEC team, Ole Miss set a high bar against Furman, leaving Ohio State with no room for slow starts.

Texas showcased its dominance by shutting out Colorado State, which puts additional pressure on Ohio State to avoid looking like a program still finding its footing.

The standard for Ohio State is now set by Georgia, and thus far, the Buckeyes have not lived up to this expectation.

What fans seek is dominance, excellence, and unwavering perfection.

Here are the latest top 25 rankings:

Editor’s note: This ranking reflects Florida State’s Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech. It will be updated following Monday night’s Florida State vs. Boston College game.

1. Georgia (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Clemson, 34-3

Georgia has triumphed in 43 of its last 45 games, with the only losses occurring against Nick Saban’s Alabama, a team that no longer holds the same power.

Following a decisive victory over a top-25 program, Georgia rightfully claims its position as the No. 1 team in the nation.

2. Ohio State (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Akron, 52-6

Expectations were high for Ohio State to achieve a shutout against one of the weakest teams in college football. Instead, they found themselves trailing Akron 3-0, allowing twice the points that Georgia permitted Clemson.

The Buckeyes should have kept the Zips scoreless.

3. Texas (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Colorado State, 52-0

Despite injuries to two of their top three running backs, Texas exhibited the prowess of a team ready to contend for the SEC title, accumulating over 500 yards of offense and showcasing Arch Manning during garbage time. Texas appears capable of defeating Michigan in Ann Arbor.

4. Ole Miss (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Furman, 76-0

Jaxson Dart had a remarkable performance, throwing for 418 yards (22-of-27) and five touchdowns just in the first half. Tre Harris also shined with eight catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Ole Miss scored 73 points in the first three quarters, amassing a total of 772 yards. Lane Kiffin is clearly not taking any chances.

5. Alabama (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Western Kentucky, 63-0

The Hilltoppers faced a severe defeat at the hands of Alabama, marking the largest shutout victory for the Crimson Tide since 1973. Despite missing former five-star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, Alabama’s performance remained unaffected.

Freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams made a significant impact with two catches for 139 yards, both resulting in touchdowns. Michigan transfer Keon Sabb contributed with two interceptions during the first half.

6. Notre Dame (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Texas A&M, 23-13

Notre Dame stands out as one of four teams with a top-25 win after Week 1. They will face Georgia Tech, another top-25 team, on October 19, and a strong Florida State team on November 9, but the Aggies may prove to be their toughest challenge this season.

Marcus Freeman’s squad defeated Texas A&M by the same margin that No. 3 Oregon overcame FCS Idaho. The Ducks have some explaining to do.

7. USC (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated LSU, 27-20

Miller Moss delivered a stellar performance in the final moments of USC’s matchup with LSU, completing 27 of 36 passes for 378 yards and a touchdown.

USC now resembles the team many expected Oregon to be after Week 1.

8. Penn State (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated West Virginia, 34-12

Fans of Penn State anticipated a strong defense and were rewarded with an impressive performance from Drew Allar, who threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns.

James Franklin’s decision to bring in former Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki appears to be a successful move.

9. Oregon (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Idaho, 24-14

Oregon led 17-14 in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. Idaho managed to defeat an FBS opponent last year, finishing with a 9-4 record, but that opponent was Nevada, not a team expected to compete for the Big Ten title.

A slow start against Boise State in Week 2 could be detrimental. Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty had a remarkable performance with 267 rushing yards and six touchdowns against Georgia Southern.

Head coach Spencer Danielson praised Jeanty, calling him a top-100 superstar in the upcoming rankings.

“Ashton Jeanty is the best player in the country,” said Danielson. “That was on full display tonight.”

10. Missouri (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Murray State, 51-0

Missouri’s slogan could be “What can NIL do for you?” It has transformed Brady Cook into a formidable quarterback and elevated Luther Burden’s performance against lesser opponents. The Tigers won’t face a ranked team until they meet Alabama on October 26.

11. Oklahoma (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Temple, 51-3

Oklahoma secured a 51-3 victory over an FBS opponent. Meanwhile, Missouri triumphed 51-0 against an FCS team. However, perceptions of both teams seem to differ, with Oklahoma receiving less recognition despite winning 10 games last year.

12. Utah (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Southern Utah, 49-0

Utah has yet to allow a point this season, a notable achievement among Big 12 teams after Week 1.

13. Tennessee (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Chattanooga, 69-3

The Volunteers are making themselves a must-watch team this season after a dominant performance against Chattanooga.

14. Michigan (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Fresno State, 30-10

Quarterback Davis Warren started over Alex Orji. Though both played, it’s clear that head coach Sherrone Moore and offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell believed Warren was best suited to lead the offense. His performance, however, raised questions about his command of the playbook.

Warren’s 118 yards (15-of-25) with a touchdown and an interception were underwhelming. Meanwhile, Kalel Mullings led the rushing attack with 92 yards on 15 carries, while EA Sports “College Football 25” cover athlete Donovan Edwards managed only 27 rushing yards on 11 carries.

As defending national champions, Michigan will face Texas as an underdog on Saturday (12 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports App). The question remains: How will the Wolverines respond?

A Texas fan might show up in Michigan with a photo of Bill Engvall on burnt orange flyers, handing them out to fans around Michigan Stadium.

15. Oklahoma State (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated South Dakota State, 44-20

Oklahoma State demonstrated what a Big 12 team should do against a top-ranked FCS opponent, achieving a decisive win.

16. Miami (Fla.) (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Florida, 41-17

Cam Ward emerged as the standout player in Florida after completing 26 of 35 passes for 385 yards with three touchdowns and one interception, leading Miami to a commanding victory over the Gators.

Miami’s defense made an impact as well, recording three sacks and two turnovers while pressuring Graham Mertz. While Montrell Johnson surpassed 100 rushing yards, he was the only one who managed to evade Miami’s defense.

17. LSU (0-1)

Week 1 result: Lost to USC, 27-20

LSU held a 17-14 lead in the fourth quarter but ultimately lost to USC, marking Brian Kelly’s third consecutive season-opening loss. However, Garrett Nussmeier showed promise, completing 29 of 38 passes for 304 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception on the final play.

18. Kansas State (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Tennessee-Martin, 41-6

Kansas State delivered a solid performance against Tennessee-Martin, showcasing their strength in a convincing win.

19. Georgia Tech (2-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Georgia State, 35-12

Georgia Tech made headlines with a stunning upset over Florida State in Week 0. They followed that with a solid victory over Georgia State, where Haynes King threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns while also scoring once on the ground.

The Yellow Jackets’ defense deserves recognition, having limited their opponents to just one touchdown in the past two games.

20. Kansas (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Lindenwood, 48-3

The Jayhawks scored 27 points in the second quarter alone, totaling 530 yards, including 331 rushing yards, in their victory.

21. Florida State (1-0)

Week 1 result: vs. Boston College (Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET)

Check back for updates.

22. Clemson (0-1)

Week 1 result: Lost to Georgia, 34-3

Clemson’s offense struggled against Georgia, scoring just 10 points in two games. Dabo Swinney acknowledged the frustration of Clemson fans after such a disappointing performance.

23. Arizona (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated New Mexico, 61-39

Wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan made history with 304 receiving yards against New Mexico, marking the second-highest total ever in Big 12 history during Arizona’s first game in the conference.

24. Iowa (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated Illinois State, 40-0

25. Nebraska (1-0)

Week 1 result: Defeated North Dakota, 21-3

Dylan Raiola showcased his talent as a five-star quarterback for Nebraska, effectively managing the game and avoiding turnovers, which had been a challenge for previous starters.
