Today’s Thanksgiving NFL game list includes three matchups, all of which have playoff implications, although two of them contain massive point spreads that would normally indicate a surefire win.
First in Thanksgiving NFL betting is Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills versus better-than-expected Detroit Lions.
Buffalo Bills @ Detroit Lions – 12:30 p.m. (CBS)
- Bill’s Point Spread: -10.0
- Bills Moneyline: -470
- Lions Point Spread: +10.0
- Lion’s Money Line: +345
- Over/Under: 54.5
While many are still banking on the Buffalo Bills franchise finally getting over the hill and winning Super Bowl 57, they have slipped in recent weeks and now find themselves second in the AFC East Division behind the Miami Dolphins.
The Bills are favored by a massive 10-point spread, but the Detroit Lions have been impressive on offense this season, averaging 25 points per game. The Lions’ offensive efforts have not matched their defense as they allow 28.2 PPG, resulting in their current win-loss record of 4-6.
Still, we can help but be tempted by that 10-point line and will likely put our action on Detroit to cover it.
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys – 4:30 p.m. (FOX)
- Giant’s Point Spread: +9.5
- Giant’s Moneyline: +355
- Cowboys Point Spread: -9.5
- Cowboy’s money line: -490
- Over/Under: 45.5
This NFC East rivalry will heavily factor into wildcard placement in this year’s NFL playoffs, with the winning team retaining a slim chance of catching the Philadelphia Eagles, who currently lead the division.
Betting on the Dallas Cowboys and their -9.5 spread might seem like a risky proposition, but they beat the Giants by 8 points in New York in Week 3.
NFL betting sites need to believe that the Dallas team that defeated the Minnesota Vikings last weekend will show up today, rather than the team that failed to knock out the struggling Green Bay Packers the week before. If we had to place a bet now, the Giants would cover.
New England Patriots @ Minnesota Vikings – 8:20 p.m. (NBC)
- Patriots Point Spread: +2.5
- Patriot’s money line: +120
- Viking’s Point Spread: -2.5
- Viking Moneyline: -140
- Over/Under: 42.0
The up-and-coming New England Patriots will travel against the Minnesota Vikings to wrap up Thanksgiving Eve. The Vikings are favored by a field goal, but that’s about all they scored against Dallas last Sunday.
We tend to bet that the New England Patriots will not only cover the game, but win it, as head coach Bill Belichick will surely study the Cowboys’ defensive efforts and try to emulate them.
