New York Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton faces uncertainty for MLB Opening Day due to elbow tendinitis affecting both arms.
The announcement came from Yankees manager Aaron Boone on Sunday, coinciding with the arrival of position players for the first full-squad practice.
When questioned about Stanton’s status for the March 27 season opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, Boone remarked, “Tough to say.”
He added, “I’m not going to put any timeline on it. We’re just going to be smart with it and kind of listen to it a little bit.”
In another update, outfielder Trent Grisham, who recently strained a hamstring during training, is reportedly close to regaining full speed.
Boone stated, “He shouldn’t be too far behind.”
Additionally, bench coach Brad Ausmus suffered a severe hamstring injury while playing basketball over the weekend, as noted by Boone.
Boone reflected on his own experience from January 2004, when he tore his left ACL in a similar situation, leading to the Yankees’ acquisition of Alex Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers.
“Obviously, I advise them not to do that, understandably, but he wanted to take his 55-year-old act out there anyway,” Boone commented.
When asked if he was on the opposing team during Ausmus’s basketball game, Boone replied, “Absolutely not.”
