Why the Cowboys Must Chase Deion and Shedeur Sanders, Even with Dak Prescott’s Deal in Place!

Why Cowboys should go all-in for Deion, Shedeur Sanders despite Dak Prescott's contract

The Dallas Cowboys should go all-in for Deion and Shedeur Sanders, despite Dak Prescott’s hefty contract. The team is currently struggling at 3-7, following a disappointing loss to the Houston Texans. With Prescott sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Cowboys face an uphill battle, and head coach Mike McCarthy’s future hangs in the balance.

Colin Cowherd argues that a significant overhaul is necessary for the Cowboys, advocating for the hiring of Deion Sanders, a former NFL star and current coach at the University of Colorado, to replace McCarthy. Cowherd also believes the team should draft Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son and a standout quarterback, to revitalize their roster.

Michael Irvin, a legendary Cowboys player and close friend of Deion Sanders, expressed confidence in this potential move. “I believe 100% and I can tell you, good sources have told me that,” he stated on “The Herd,” suggesting that Deion would consider coaching the Cowboys if Shedeur was drafted.

Deion Sanders has gained recognition in the coaching world after dramatically improving Colorado’s football program, leading the Buffaloes to an impressive 8-2 record and positioning them for a shot at the College Football Playoff. Shedeur Sanders has been instrumental in this success, completing 72.9% of his passes for 3,222 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions this season.

Despite the buzz surrounding his son’s potential NFL career, Deion Sanders recently affirmed his commitment to Colorado, stating, “I am happy where I am. I have a kickstand down. I am good. I love it here.”

Cowherd remains adamant that the Cowboys should pursue the Sanders duo, even after investing in Prescott’s record-breaking contract. He stated, “If I was the Dallas Cowboys, I don’t care about Dak’s new contract, I would go get Deion Sanders and I would pick Shedeur Sanders.” He emphasized that taking significant risks is essential for the team’s future success.

As of Week 12, the Cowboys hold the No. 9 overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. If Shedeur Sanders is indeed the top quarterback prospect, the Cowboys may need to trade up, as projections indicate he could be selected as early as the third pick by the Tennessee Titans.

However, the Cowboys are just a game behind the Jaguars for the top pick, and Cowherd believes they have a chance to secure it without making a trade, given their remaining schedule against playoff contenders. He draws parallels to the Denver Broncos, who successfully moved on from Russell Wilson and revitalized their franchise with a new coach and rookie quarterback.

Cowherd pointed out that whether Dak Prescott is upset about drafting Shedeur Sanders is irrelevant. “Dak will be upset if you draft Shedeur Sanders. So what?” he remarked, highlighting that bold moves can lead to success, as seen with the Broncos.

The concern over Prescott’s hamstring injury adds urgency to the Cowboys’ decision-making. With a lengthy recovery ahead, Cowherd suggests that pursuing Shedeur Sanders could be the right path forward. He believes that Jerry Jones, the team’s owner, needs to take decisive action as the Cowboys approach a 30-year Super Bowl drought.

“If Shedeur Sanders is great, nobody cares,” Cowherd stated, emphasizing that history has shown fans quickly forget about controversial decisions if they lead to victories. The Cowboys’ roster faces challenges, and Cowherd insists that bold moves are necessary to escape their current predicament.
