U.S. Women’s National Team star Crystal Dunn has parted ways with Gotham FC after just one season.
The National Women’s Soccer League team announced on Tuesday that Dunn’s departure comes as she seeks “a new opportunity,” though specifics about this opportunity remain undisclosed.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Dunn expressed her enthusiasm for what lies ahead: “As I turn the page and prepare for a new chapter, I am filled with excitement for what lies ahead. The journey continues, and I am committed to reaching new heights and pushing myself to be the absolute best version of who I am. Everything happens for a reason, and I’m ready to embrace this next phase of my career with passion, grace, and joy.”
Joining Gotham FC as a free agent in late 2023, Dunn made her mark during her single season with the club, participating in 23 matches and contributing one goal along with two assists.
Prior to her time with Gotham, Dunn played for the Portland Thorns, taking a significant break in 2022 to welcome her son. Her career also includes tenures with the North Carolina Courage, Chelsea in the English Women’s Super League, and the Washington Spirit.
Gotham FC’s general manager, Yael Averbuch West, acknowledged Dunn’s impressive career, stating, “Crystal is an accomplished player who has achieved so much. We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career and thank her for her contributions to our club.”
Dunn’s accolades include being part of the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last summer, as well as the squad that triumphed in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
At 32 years old, Dunn has made 154 appearances for the United States, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists, showcasing her talent and dedication to the sport.
