Christian Pulisic could be out for AC Milan until January due to a muscle tear in his right calf sustained during a recent match against Atalanta, the Italian club confirmed on Monday.
The standout player for the U.S. men’s national team and AC Milan’s top scorer this season was substituted in the first half of the game, prompting an MRI that indicated a minor tear in his calf muscle.
Pulisic’s absence will be felt during crucial fixtures, including the Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday and Serie A matches against Genoa this weekend, Verona on December 20, and Roma on December 29. The seven-time European champions are set to kick off their 2025 schedule on January 3 in Saudi Arabia, where they will face Juventus and Pulisic’s USMNT teammates, Weston McKennie and Tim Weah, in the Italian SuperCup semifinal.
There is hope that Pulisic might be fit to return for that match, as AC Milan stated that the native of Hershey, Pennsylvania, will undergo reevaluation next week.
With eight goals across 20 appearances in Serie A and the Champions League, Pulisic has emerged as AC Milan’s most influential player this season, marking his second year in Italy after a four-year stint with Chelsea in the Premier League.
Although his time in London was marred by injuries, Pulisic has largely maintained his fitness since joining Milan. The 26-year-old has participated in 50 matches across all competitions in the 2023-24 season, achieving a career-high of 12 goals, and has been a consistent starter for the club this year.
Fortunately, this injury is not expected to hinder Pulisic’s involvement with the national team. The U.S. squad, primarily composed of MLS players, will engage in two friendlies next month, while the full-strength USMNT will reconvene shortly before the March 20 Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Panama in Los Angeles.
