UConn’s Paige Bueckers reaches 2,000 career points in record-breaking 102 games.
The remarkable senior guard achieved this milestone during a thrilling match against Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere at Gampel Pavilion was electric, as fans witnessed Bueckers become the fastest player in UConn history to reach this scoring landmark.
This accomplishment is particularly impressive given that the 6-foot athlete from Hopkins, Minnesota has only completed two full seasons at UConn. Despite facing significant injuries, including a tibial plateau fracture, a torn ACL, and a knee sprain, she has led the Huskies to three Final Four appearances and is determined to make it four this April.
Bueckers surpassed the previous record held by UConn’s all-time leading scorer, Maya Moore, who reached 2,000 points in 108 games. For Bueckers, this achievement is even more meaningful as she grew up idolizing Moore and cheering for the Minnesota Lynx.
Reflecting on her journey, Bueckers expressed, “It’s kind of crazy to hear. But then, like, I’m talking to coach on Friday and Maya [has] got 3,036 points. So you look everywhere around you here and humble yourself.”
Bueckers continued, “I’m grateful, extremely blessed, and it’s surreal to think about all of the people that have passed through here and my journey to where I am. I guess that’s a pretty cool feat.”
Last season, she scored 854 points, the highest total by a UConn junior in history, earning accolades such as First Team All-American and Big East Player of the Year. This milestone further solidifies her growing legacy in college basketball.
While Bueckers’ primary goal remains to end UConn’s national championship drought, Sunday’s celebration was a moment to recognize her extraordinary achievements despite the challenges she has faced. Her resilience and talent have made her a standout figure in sports, inspiring fans and aspiring athletes alike.
