Trey Kaufman-Renn led No. 17 Purdue to a hard-fought victory over No. 13 Oregon, finishing the game with 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 65-58 win on Saturday.
Despite a rocky start, missing his first six attempts, Kaufman-Renn rebounded to shoot 7 for 20 and converted all nine of his free throw attempts. Braden Smith contributed significantly with 15 points and seven rebounds, helping the Boilermakers (15-4, 7-1 Big Ten) secure their seventh consecutive victory.
Nate Bittle was the standout for Oregon (15-3, 4-3), scoring 18 points, while Jackson Shelstad added 15 points and five rebounds. Unfortunately for the Ducks, their shooting woes continued, as they managed only 36% from the field, including a disappointing 7 of 29 from beyond the arc.
Oregon made a push, narrowing the gap to 42-41 with a three-pointer from Shelstad. However, Kaufman-Renn quickly responded, scoring six consecutive points. Even when Shelstad brought Oregon closer again at 52-48, Kaufman-Renn’s two free throws and Smith’s four-point burst extended Purdue’s lead to 58-48 with just 2:33 remaining.
In the first half, Shelstad’s eight points helped Oregon take a narrow 31-30 lead, limiting Purdue to a mere 31.3% shooting percentage.
