Thunder sign defensive guard Alex Caruso to 4-year, $81 million extension

The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially signed Alex Caruso to a multi-year extension, solidifying their commitment to the talented defensive guard.

According to Caruso’s agent, Greg Lawrence, the extension spans four years and is valued at $81 million.

The Thunder acquired the 30-year-old Caruso during the offseason in a trade that sent Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls. Since joining Oklahoma City, Caruso has seamlessly integrated into the team, averaging 5.7 points and 2.4 assists while ranking sixth in the league with an impressive 1.9 steals per game. His veteran experience has proven invaluable for one of the youngest squads in the NBA.

Together with Lu Dort, Caruso has been instrumental in disrupting opposing backcourts, contributing to the Thunder’s remarkable Western Conference-best record of 22-5. Oklahoma City currently leads the league in various defensive categories, including defensive rating, opponent field goal percentage, and steals.

Before joining the Thunder, Caruso built a reputation as an elite perimeter defender during his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls. He earned recognition on the All-Defense First Team in 2023 and the Second Team in 2024, showcasing his impact on the court.
