TCU WR Jack Bech, inspired by his brother’s memory, chases NFL dreams at the Senior Bowl. This prestigious event can significantly impact a player’s draft prospects, showcasing talents to scouts and coaches alike, even months before the NFL Draft in April.
For Bech, this opportunity serves a deeper purpose beyond football; it aids him in his journey of healing.
During practice, he executed a remarkable catch from Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, who threw a long pass down the right sideline. Although the throw was slightly underthrown, Bech, a 6-foot-2 receiver, skillfully adjusted, turning around to leap and secure the catch despite the presence of two defenders.
This week, he donned an orange No. 7 jersey, a tribute to his late brother, Martin “Tiger” Bech, rather than the No. 18 he wore during a standout 2024 season at TCU, where he recorded 62 receptions for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns.
Martin, a former Princeton receiver and stockbroker, tragically lost his life in a New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans, becoming one of 14 victims. This week marks Jack’s return to the familiar realm of football, a space that offers him solace amid his grief.
“My family and I have certainly felt the outpouring of love and support from everyone, which has helped us through this tough time,” Bech shared. He hails from Lafayette, Louisiana, and his family and friends will be there to cheer him on during Saturday’s game.
Bech is not alone in honoring his brother; every player participating in the Senior Bowl will wear a sticker on their helmets featuring the number 7 in orange-and-black tiger stripes.
“I’ve got angel wings on me,” Bech expressed regarding wearing his brother’s number. “He’s my greatest guardian angel, guiding me to where I am now. This is his last test for me; if I can get through this, I can handle anything that comes my way.”
This past month has been challenging for Bech, yet it has instilled in him a renewed appreciation for life and the game he loves. He understands how quickly opportunities can vanish, and this week represents his chance to demonstrate his abilities to NFL teams, aiming to secure a spot on a professional roster.
“I am grateful to be in front of these teams, and I cherish this opportunity,” Bech stated. “Every morning, I thank God for placing me in this position, and I aim to seize every chance I get.”
Regarded as a mid-round draft prospect, Bech is recognized for his physical play, precise route-running, and ability to make difficult catches, like the one he executed during practice. Football runs in the family; Jack and Martin’s uncle, Brett, played receiver at LSU and spent three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
Just a year ago, Bech was not on the NFL’s radar or the Senior Bowl’s list, having only four touchdowns in his first three college seasons, including two at LSU. However, he made a significant impact during the latter half of the season, amassing 647 yards and six touchdowns in just five games. In TCU’s season finale, he caught a crucial touchdown pass, leading the Horned Frogs to victory over Stanford. This performance prompted him to declare for the NFL Draft, and Saturday is his moment to make a lasting impression.
“I want teams to see my high level of game speed. I can stretch the field,” he asserted. “I have a deep understanding of the game, the nuances, and how to attack coverages. No matter who is in front of me, I remain focused and give my best every time.”
