Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth has reportedly secured a four-year, $48.4 million contract extension. This significant deal reflects the team’s commitment to Freiermuth as a vital asset for their future.
At just 25 years old, Freiermuth was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. His new average annual salary of $12.1 million ranks him ninth among tight ends in the NFL, showcasing his rising status in the league.
The previous season posed challenges for Freiermuth, as he was limited to 12 regular-season games due to a hamstring injury. Despite this setback, he managed to record 32 receptions for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Over his three-year career, he has maintained impressive averages of 51.7 receptions, 512.3 yards, and 3.7 touchdowns per season.
Freiermuth entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from Penn State. He made an immediate impact with seven receiving touchdowns in his rookie year and achieved a personal best of 732 receiving yards in 2022.
As the Steelers gear up for the 2024 regular season, they will face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, broadcast on FOX and the FOX Sports app. The game will also see veteran quarterback Russell Wilson listed as questionable due to calf tightness, with Justin Fields poised to step in if Wilson cannot play.
