Reds’ All-Star Pitcher Hunter Greene Hits the IL: Elbow Soreness Raises Concerns

Reds put All-Star pitcher Hunter Greene on IL with elbow soreness

The Cincinnati Reds have placed All-Star pitcher Hunter Greene on the 15-day injured list due to elbow soreness, a decision that has raised concerns among fans and team officials alike.

Currently boasting a record of 9-4, Greene has maintained an impressive 2.83 ERA and tallied 162 strikeouts this season.

In his last outing against the Cardinals, he delivered a stellar performance, pitching seven innings while allowing just one run, contributing significantly to the Reds’ 4-1 victory. His injured list placement is retroactive to Wednesday.

Cincinnati’s general manager, Nick Krall, emphasized the precautionary nature of this move, stating, “It’s elbow soreness. We’re going to be getting an MRI in the next couple of days, and we’re just going to try to figure that out.”

Greene, who previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019, has been a pivotal player for the Reds this season.

Krall added, “He’s been tremendous this year. It was a tough conversation, but he understood the situation. We knew he would miss at least one start, so this was the best course of action.”

As the Reds navigate this setback, they are still evaluating options for who will step in to fill Greene’s scheduled start on Monday.
