Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford stated that he will “take some time” to think about his future after the team’s recent playoff exit. “It’s 30 minutes after our last game, so I’ll take some time to think about it. I feel like I was playing some really good ball,” Stafford remarked following the Rams’ divisional round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, as reported by NFL.com.
When questioned about whether he still has “football left” in him, Stafford responded affirmatively, saying, “it sure feels like it.” This statement suggests that while he remains confident in his abilities, he has yet to make a definitive decision regarding his playing career.
Adding to the uncertainty, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, shared a post on Instagram that included a candid message reflecting on his future: “I’m wondering if this is the end or not… guess we will find out.” This personal insight highlights the emotional stakes involved in Stafford’s potential decision-making process.
In his last game of the 2024-25 season, Stafford and the Rams fell short in a dramatic finish. After scoring a touchdown and forcing a quick three-and-out, the Rams found themselves at the Eagles’ 13-yard line with just 1:14 left in the game. However, they were unable to convert on fourth down, allowing Philadelphia to take a knee and secure the victory.
Throughout the regular season, Stafford played in 16 games, amassing a total of 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, achieving a passer rating of 93.7 while completing 65.8% of his passes. His performance helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to a 10-7 record, securing the NFC West title.
In the previous week, Stafford showcased his skills by throwing for 209 yards and two touchdowns, completing 70.4% of his passes in the Rams’ wild-card round victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
As a two-time Pro Bowler, Stafford has just finished his fourth season with the Rams, a tenure that includes a Super Bowl LVI championship. Under his leadership, the team has reached the playoffs in three out of four seasons, with the exception of 2022. As he approaches his 37th birthday next month, Stafford has two seasons remaining on a four-year, $160 million contract, though it is important to note that none of the money is guaranteed after this season.
