Purdue has officially parted ways with head coach Ryan Walters after a challenging two-season tenure, according to multiple reports on Sunday. His record with the Boilermakers stands at 5-19, which includes a disappointing 3-15 in Big Ten matchups and a troubling 1-11 record against FBS opponents this season.
The decision to dismiss Walters came swiftly, just a day after Purdue suffered a staggering 66-0 defeat against their bitter rival, No. 10 Indiana. This loss highlighted the struggles the team faced throughout the season.
Walters was appointed to the role following Jeff Brohm’s departure before the 2024 season, having previously served as Illinois’ defensive coordinator. Unfortunately for Walters, he could not replicate that success in West Lafayette. Under his leadership, Purdue’s defense allowed an alarming average of 35.2 points per game, with at least 40 points scored against them in eight of the 24 games played during his tenure.
This situation remains fluid as Purdue looks to rebuild and find a new direction for its football program.
