Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey suffered a broken left leg during a collision in a recent game against the Orlando Magic, according to an ESPN report.
In a heartfelt social media update, Ivey informed his fans about the injury and expressed his determination to recover.
“I promise to come back even better,” he stated in his post. “The recovery starts now #DetroitBasketball.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Pistons had not released any further updates regarding Ivey’s condition.
Drafted as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Ivey, a standout from Purdue University, was enjoying a breakout season. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and four assists across 30 games, all marking career highs.
The injury occurred when Orlando’s Cole Anthony lost his footing while both players were pursuing the ball. Anthony’s momentum caused him to crash into Ivey’s planted leg, resulting in Ivey falling to the court in visible pain, prompting immediate attention from the medical staff.
To shield Ivey from the crowd, members of the training staff held towels while players from both teams formed a protective circle around him. After an extended delay, he was carefully placed on a stretcher and transported out of the arena, a towel concealing his injury.
