NFL Postseason Big Bets report reveals that the Washington Commanders are attracting some of the largest payouts in Super Bowl odds. Once considered significant long shots, they now stand just two victories away from capturing a championship title.
However, the standout wager is a staggering $1 million bet on the Buffalo Bills, marking the largest Super Bowl wager recorded to date.
Barstool Bettor
On January 19, prior to the Bills facing the Ravens in the divisional round, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy placed a bold wager of $1 million on the Bills to secure the Super Bowl victory.
This bet marks the first known seven-figure wager on Super Bowl odds, setting a precedent that is likely to be followed by others.
The implications of such a substantial bet are significant. Should the Bills triumph and hoist the Lombardi Trophy on February 9, Portnoy stands to gain $5.5 million, culminating in a total payout of $6.5 million.
At +255 odds, a $1 million wager would yield a profit of $2.55 million, resulting in a total payout of $3.55 million. To achieve a similar profit of $5.5 million, another bettor would need to stake approximately $2.16 million at current odds.
Dollars on Daniels
On September 6, just two days before the Commanders’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a DraftKings Sportsbook customer made a noteworthy bet on Washington.
What started as a risky flier is now trending toward a substantial six-figure cashout, much closer than anticipated.
The Commanders’ Super Bowl odds have experienced significant fluctuations throughout the offseason. Last February, they opened at +15000 (150/1) to win Super Bowl LIX.
Following the draft of LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, interest in betting on the team surged, leading to odds of +6000 (60/1) by June.
However, as the regular season commenced, enthusiasm dwindled, and Washington’s odds fell back to +12000 (120/1) at DraftKings.
This was the moment when a bettor placed $1,500 on Daniels and the Commanders at +12000. Fast forward four and a half months, and that bettor is now just two wins away from a lucrative $180,000 payout.
On June 8, another DraftKings customer wagered $1,000 on the Commanders at +6000. Although they might regret not waiting until September when the odds were double that, there remains a chance to turn that $1,000 into $60,000.
That’s certainly a favorable dilemma to face.
More recently, in mid-January, a Caesars Sports bettor placed a $3,000 wager on the Commanders at +3000 to win the Lombardi Trophy. Should Washington emerge victorious in the Super Bowl, the bettor stands to gain $90,000 in profit, leading to a total payout of $93,000.
Another customer at Caesars placed a $5,000 bet on the Commanders at +2700 to win the season finale, which would yield a profit of $135,000 (total payout of $140,000).
Parlay Partay
Numerous futures parlays also exist, many of which culminate in the Super Bowl winner. The allure of these bets lies in the potential for minimal investment to yield substantial returns.
For example, several months ago, well before the conclusion of the 2023-24 NBA and NHL seasons, a DraftKings customer wagered $15 on a four-leg parlay:
- Boston Celtics +265 to win the NBA Finals
- Florida Panthers +900 to win the Stanley Cup
- Los Angeles Dodgers +360 to win the World Series
- Buffalo Bills +1000 to win the Super Bowl
The combined odds for this parlay are an impressive +184590, or roughly 1846/1. Now, the bettor is just one win away from transforming that $15 into a remarkable $27,703.50.
An even larger payout is still active at FanDuel Sportsbook. Earlier in the spring, a bettor placed $20 on a five-leg futures parlay:
- Celtics +220 to win the NBA Finals
- Panthers +650 to win the Stanley Cup
- Man City +125 to win the Premier League
- Dodgers +320 to win the World Series
- Bills +1200 to win the Super Bowl
This ticket boasts odds of +294740, or approximately 2947/1.
If the Bills achieve victory, the bettor stands to win a staggering profit of $58,948.
Super Bowl Shuffle
In addition to the bets on the Commanders, numerous standard futures bets exist for teams like the Bills, Chiefs, and Eagles.
Borgata Sportsbook, a BetMGM property in Atlantic City, recorded two significant bets on the Eagles just before their 22-10 wild-card victory over the Green Bay Packers.
- $50,000 Eagles +325 to win the NFC
- $50,000 Eagles +700 to win the Super Bowl
If the Eagles secure the NFC title this weekend, the bettor will pocket a profit of $162,500 (total payout of $212,500). Should Philadelphia go on to win the Super Bowl, the bettor would earn an additional $350,000 profit (total payout of $400,000).
Before Week 18, another Caesars customer placed a $20,000 bet on Philadelphia at +650 to win the Super Bowl. If successful, that bettor will gain $130,000 (total payout of $150,000).
MVP Money
As the postseason unfolds, multiple sportsbooks have released Super Bowl MVP odds, drawing interest from bettors willing to take calculated risks before the teams finalize their spots in the championship game on February 9.
One of the most intriguing bets thus far includes $550 on Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker at odds of +100000, equivalent to 1000/1. If Kansas City reaches and wins a third consecutive Super Bowl, with Butker playing a crucial role, that bettor could cash in for an impressive $550,000.
Another bettor at Caesars placed a $100 wager on Butker at the same odds, hoping to win $100,000.
Additionally, Caesars has accepted a $1,000 bet on Bills running back James Cook at +12500. If Cook secures the MVP award, this bettor stands to gain $125,000.
