Neymar is reportedly in discussions with Chicago Fire FC and two other clubs regarding a potential transfer to Major League Soccer, as stated in an ESPN report on Wednesday. This move could mark a significant shift in his career, especially as MLS continues to attract high-profile players.
Interestingly, Inter Miami, the team featuring Neymar’s former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, is not currently pursuing him, according to the same report.
When asked about a potential move to Inter Miami earlier this month, Neymar left the possibility open-ended.
“Who knows?” Neymar told CNN Sport. “Football is full of surprises.”
The 32-year-old Brazilian star currently plays for Al-Hilal SFC in the Saudi Pro League, following a lucrative $300 million contract signed in August 2023. However, he has faced challenges on the field, participating in only seven matches over two seasons due to various injuries, including a notable knee injury that sidelined him from Copa América.
With his contract set to expire this summer, Neymar has expressed satisfaction with his life in Saudi Arabia but acknowledged the allure of reuniting with his friends, particularly Luis Suárez, to recreate the legendary “MSN” attacking trio in Miami.
“They are my friends,” Neymar stated. “We still speak to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio.”
Neymar’s ambitions extend beyond club football; he has his eye on making Brazil’s roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
“I want to be there,” he said. “I know this will be my last World Cup — my last shot, my last chance — and I will do everything I can to play in it.”
Neymar last represented Brazil during World Cup qualifying in 2023, contributing two goals and three assists in four matches. His playing time with Al-Hilal has been limited since December 7, primarily due to a hamstring injury.
