The NBA has officially postponed the highly anticipated matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans, which was set for Wednesday night. This decision comes in the wake of an unprecedented winter storm that blanketed the city with approximately a foot of snow.
The severe weather conditions on Tuesday rendered road travel extremely hazardous in a city not equipped for such wintery challenges, where snow-clearing resources are limited.
In a proactive move, the Milwaukee Bucks arrived in New Orleans a day early, flying in on Monday to prepare for the game at the 18,000-seat Smoothie King Center. Their early arrival was a strategic decision, anticipating the possibility that road conditions might stabilize.
However, on Wednesday, temperatures hovered in the 30s, and authorities had closed numerous main highways in the metropolitan area. Ice continued to coat many surface roads, making travel perilous.
As a result, schools and businesses across the region remained shuttered on Wednesday, reflecting the widespread impact of the storm.
Looking ahead, the Bucks are scheduled to face the Miami Heat on Thursday. However, uncertainty looms over whether they will be able to depart New Orleans in time for the game.
Louis Armstrong International Airport also announced the cancellation of all commercial flights on Wednesday, further complicating travel plans.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans are set to play in Memphis on Friday night, adding to the urgency of resolving their travel issues.
