The Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers have decided to postpone their home games on Saturday due to the devastating fires affecting the greater Los Angeles region.
Originally, the Lakers were set to face the San Antonio Spurs at the Crypto.com Center in Downtown Los Angeles, while the Clippers were prepared to host the Charlotte Hornets at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.
This postponement follows the Lakers’ earlier decision to delay their Wednesday matchup against the Hornets. Meanwhile, the Clippers have just returned from a two-game road trip.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick recently experienced a personal tragedy, as his family lost their home to the Palisades Fire. Despite this, he led the team through practice on Friday and voiced a strong desire to proceed with Saturday’s game.
“We’re prepared for whatever tomorrow brings,” Redick stated. “We will collaborate with the NBA, the Spurs, and the city to make the right decision. I want to play tomorrow. I want to coach tomorrow. I want these guys to play tomorrow. If we can play, we’ll play.”
Kawhi Leonard, a key player for the Clippers, was excused from team activities earlier this week to assist his family with evacuation efforts. He has since rejoined the team as they prepare for upcoming games.
Both the Lakers and Clippers are scheduled to play at home on Monday, with the Lakers facing the Spurs and the Clippers taking on the Miami Heat.
