LA Galaxy midfielder Riqui Puig will miss the MLS Cup final after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during the Western Conference final.
Puig experienced the injury early in the second half of Saturday’s tense 1-0 win against the Seattle Sounders. Remarkably, he still managed to provide an assist for Dejan Joveljic’s decisive goal in the 85th minute, helping the Galaxy reach their first MLS Cup final since 2014.
An MRI conducted on Sunday confirmed the ACL tear, but the timeline for Puig’s surgery remains uncertain. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the team prepares for the championship match.
Next week, LA will face the New York Red Bulls in what promises to be an exciting final.
The talented player from Matadepera, Spain, had an impressive playoff run, contributing four goals and four assists in just four matches. Across all competitions this season, Puig has played 36 matches, starting 34, and recorded a total of 17 goals and 20 assists.
