John Harbaugh moved to 3-0 against his brother Jim as the Ravens triumphed over the Chargers with a score of 30-23. This game marked the first clash between the Harbaugh siblings since Super Bowl 47 in February 2013, where John’s Baltimore Ravens secured victory over Jim’s San Francisco 49ers. Jim Harbaugh made his return to the NFL this season after a successful nine-year stint at the University of Michigan, where he captured a national championship.
After the final whistle, the brothers exchanged a brief hug and handshake at midfield, a moment that showcased their strong familial bond amidst the competitive atmosphere.
Justice Hill delivered a standout performance, sprinting for a 51-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, solidifying the Ravens’ lead and improving their record to 8-4. This victory was particularly sweet for Baltimore, as they have now won three of their last four games.
On the other side, Chargers’ quarterback Justin Herbert completed 21 of 36 passes for 218 yards and added a 5-yard touchdown on a scramble during the opening drive. Despite his efforts, the Chargers, now at 7-4, saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.
The Ravens faced an early setback, trailing 10-0, but they responded with five consecutive scoring drives to take control of the game. Their resilience was evident as they converted three crucial fourth downs, including a key 2-yard gain by tight end Mark Andrews on a direct snap late in the second quarter.
Lamar Jackson, leading the league in total yards, completed 16 of 22 passes for 177 yards and rushed for 17 yards. His 10-yard keeper off the right end early in the second quarter brought the Ravens within striking distance at 10-7.
Just five plays after Andrews’ crucial fourth-down conversion, Jackson connected with Rashod Bateman on a deep throw, resulting in a contested 40-yard touchdown catch that shifted the momentum to the Ravens, giving them a 14-10 lead.
