Heat president Pat Riley addresses trade rumors: 'We are not trading Jimmy Butler'

Jimmy Butler is firmly staying with the Miami Heat, according to team president Pat Riley. His commitment to the franchise comes amidst swirling trade rumors.

On Thursday, Riley released a statement addressing the ongoing speculation about Butler’s future, emphasizing that the star forward is not on the trading block. This assertion aims to quell the distractions that have arisen from the trade chatter.

“We typically refrain from commenting on rumors, but the current speculation has become a distraction to our players and coaching staff,” Riley stated. “Let me be clear — Jimmy Butler is not being traded.”

This declaration follows an ESPN report that suggested Butler desires a trade before the February 6 deadline, with the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns emerging as his preferred teams. However, Riley’s firm stance appears to counter those claims.

Butler’s representative, Bernie Lee, has consistently denied any requests for a trade, reiterating this position on social media on Thursday.

Currently, Butler, aged 35, is in the second year of a lucrative three-year, $146.3 million contract. He holds the option to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, adding another layer of intrigue to his situation with the Heat.
