Die-hard Commanders fan Kevin Durant is taking his victory lap directly into the Washington Commanders’ locker room after their thrilling divisional round playoff victory over the Detroit Lions. Among the celebrations, the Phoenix Suns star stood out as a notable visitor from another sport.
What brought Durant to the Commanders’ locker room on such a momentous occasion?
Born in Washington D.C. and raised in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, just a short drive from the Commanders’ home turf at Northwest Stadium, Durant has long been a supporter of the team. During the game, he actively engaged with fans on X and later expressed in the locker room that the Commanders’ victory over the Lions marked their “biggest win” in his years as a dedicated follower.
In the span of Durant’s life, which began in 1998, the Commanders have celebrated one Super Bowl win (Super Bowl XXVI) and achieved a postseason record of 9-8. Their recent playoff win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was particularly significant, as it was their first playoff victory in 19 years.
On the basketball side, the Commanders are owned by Josh Harris, who also holds ownership stakes in the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. Notably, Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson joined the Commanders’ ownership group at the start of the 2023 NFL season, adding to the franchise’s high-profile connections.
As for Durant’s performance on the court, the 11-time All-NBA player is currently averaging 27.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season, with shooting percentages of 52.1% from the field, 37.3% from three-point range, and 82.2% from the free-throw line. Despite these impressive stats, the Suns find themselves at 21-20, positioned as the 10th seed in the competitive Western Conference.
Looking ahead, the Commanders are set to face off against their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the NFC Championship Game, scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app.
