Giants’ Star Rookie WR Malik Nabers Suffers Ankle Injury at Training Camp: What It Means for the Season

Giants first-round pick WR Malik Nabers tweaks ankle during training camp

The New York Giants’ first-round pick, wide receiver Malik Nabers, experienced a minor ankle sprain during practice on Sunday, marking a concerning moment for the team. This was the first practice session following their preseason opener against the Detroit Lions, and it was a day that also saw the return of offensive lineman Evan Neal.

Details surrounding Nabers’ injury remain unclear, but trainers promptly assessed the situation on the sideline. The LSU standout removed his shoe and sock, later sitting on a chest as he observed the remainder of the workout. He exited the field with a noticeable limp, and the Giants confirmed the ankle injury roughly an hour after practice concluded.

Throughout training camp, Nabers has emerged as a standout player, showcasing his ability to catch long passes from quarterback Daniel Jones and transform short receptions into significant gains. Unfortunately, he was unavailable for media interviews following the workout.

Before practice, head coach Brian Daboll expressed optimism about Jones participating in the upcoming game against the Texans in Houston. This matchup is particularly significant as it will mark Jones’ first game action since his ACL tear during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 5. Following surgery around Thanksgiving, all eyes will be on Jones, provided he performs well during practice.
