FC Cincinnati Makes History with $16.2 Million Signing of Togo Star Kévin Denkey!

FC Cincinnati signs Togo striker Kévin Denkey for MLS-record $16.2 million fee

FC Cincinnati has made headlines by signing Togo striker Kévin Denkey from Belgian club Cercle Brugge on a contract that runs through 2028, marking a significant milestone in Major League Soccer (MLS) history. This move is being hailed as an “historic transfer,” underscoring the club’s ambition to elevate its competitive status.

While Cincinnati has not disclosed the exact transfer fee, the MLS reported that Denkey’s signing is valued at approximately $16.2 million. This figure not only sets a new club record but also positions him as the most expensive player ever signed in MLS, surpassing the previous record held by Thiago Almada, who transferred to Atlanta United in 2022.

Denkey’s official integration into the Cincinnati roster will occur when the MLS primary transfer window opens in 2025. The contract includes an option for the club to retain him until 2029, highlighting their long-term vision for his role within the team.

General manager Chris Albright expressed enthusiasm about Denkey’s arrival, noting his exceptional skills as a young striker. “Kévin has been one of the most productive forwards in Europe over the last two years,” said Albright. “His elite physicality, finishing ability, and work ethic make him a valuable addition to our squad.”

This transfer not only signifies a pivotal moment for FC Cincinnati but also reflects the growing investment in talent within the MLS. Albright emphasized the importance of this deal, stating, “This is a historic transfer for our club and our league, and it’s a tremendous credit to our ownership group, which continues to invest in this club’s ambition to compete for trophies.”
