Los Angeles Rams vs. New York Jets Prediction and Picks - December 22, 2024

The Los Angeles Rams, aiming for a playoff spot, will travel east on Sunday to face the New York Jets. Currently, the Rams hold an 8-6 record and are in contention for the NFC West Division title after a victory against the 49ers last week. Meanwhile, the Jets, sitting at 4-10, ended a tough losing streak with a win over Jacksonville. The game kicks off at 1:00 pm EST at MetLife Stadium.

Read on for a game prediction for the Rams vs. Jets matchup.

Rams Racing for a Division Title

The Los Angeles Rams secured a critical win last Thursday night in San Francisco, completing a season sweep of the 49ers. This victory puts them in a strong position to capture the wide-open NFC West Division. Despite challenging weather conditions that prevented touchdowns, the Rams managed a 12-6 victory, showcasing their defensive strength. The 49ers, now 8-6, started the season poorly but are still in the running for the division title if they win their remaining games.

Coach Sean McVay highlighted the team’s versatility, stating, “What’s really cool is this team has found a bunch of different ways to be able to win.” The Rams, however, struggled offensively, gaining only 302 yards and converting just 3 out of 15 third downs. Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 16 of his 27 passes for 160 yards. Running back Kyren Williams led the ground game with 109 yards on 29 carries, while kicker Joshua Karty’s four field goals were essential for the win. Defensively, linebacker Christian Rozeboom recorded nine tackles, including a sack, and the Rams held the 49ers to a mere 191 total yards.

With three games left in the season, the Rams control their fate but must adapt to the colder weather in the Eastern Time Zone. They currently hold a 4-3 record on the road and rank 17th in overall scoring. Their rushing game has struggled, sitting at 29th, while they excel in passing, ranking 9th. On defense, they are 24th in scoring but impressive 6th in red zone defense.

Key Injuries: Cornerback Cobie Durant is questionable, while linebacker Nick Hampton, guard KT Leveston, linebacker Troy Reeder, and defensive tackle Larrell Murchison are out.

Jets Seek to End Season Strong

The New York Jets may not have a shot at the playoffs this season, but they can still finish strong. Last week, they broke a four-game losing streak with a thrilling 32-26 overtime win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. A familiar connection between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams helped spark the victory, reminiscent of their time together at the Green Bay Packers. Running back Breece Hall scored the game’s final touchdown, sealing the comeback.

After the game, Adams remarked, “Oh yeah, today was one of those days in the second half. Definitely felt very, very similar to the way we used to get it rolling.” Adams had a standout performance, catching 9 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns, while Rodgers threw for 289 yards and ran for an additional 45 yards. The Jets collectively amassed 400 yards of offense, and their defense managed two sacks and two interceptions despite allowing 421 yards.

Although the Jets are out of playoff contention, they can still play spoiler in their remaining games. Rodgers has been throwing well, racking up nearly 600 yards over the last two weeks. However, the Jets have struggled at home, with a 2-4 record this season. They are ranked 22nd in scoring, 19th in rushing, and 18th in passing. Defensively, they rank 18th in scoring defense but hold strong against the run, coming in at 6th.

Key Injuries: Linebacker Quincy Williams, guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, offensive tackle Morgan Moses, and running back Isaiah Davis are questionable, while defensive tackle Leki Fotu is out.
