Dave Sims Takes the Mic: A New Era for Yankees Radio Broadcasting!

Dave Sims replacing John Sterling as Yankees radio play-by-play broadcaster

Dave Sims is set to take over from John Sterling as Suzyn Waldman’s play-by-play partner for New York Yankees radio broadcasts.

This announcement was made by WFAN, the Yankees’ local radio affiliate, in collaboration with the team on Thursday.

“It’s great to be home,” Sims expressed in a statement shared through WFAN. “What an honor to be part of the iconic Yankees franchise. New York is where it all began for me, and I can’t wait for Opening Day and to work with my good friend Suzyn!”

At 71 years old, Sims has dedicated the last two decades to calling games for the Seattle Mariners. Shortly after the announcement, he posted a heartfelt video on his X account, expressing gratitude to Mariners fans for their unwavering support.

A native of Philadelphia, Sims previously worked as a reporter for the New York Daily News and hosted a midday talk show on WFAN from 1989 to 1993, according to the New York Post. He is also known for broadcasting college basketball games, primarily in the Big East, for FOX Sports.

Sims reportedly outperformed Yankees Spanish-language broadcaster Rickie Ricardo, who was also in the running for the position.

John Sterling, aged 86, announced his retirement in April after a few weeks into his 36th season. However, he made a brief return during the final week of the regular season, contributing to the postseason broadcasts as the Yankees made a run for their first American League pennant in 15 years, ultimately losing the World Series in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
