The Indianapolis Colts will participate in the NFL’s inaugural regular-season game in Berlin.
On Tuesday, the NFL confirmed that the 2025 Berlin matchup will take place at the iconic Olympic Stadium. Details regarding the Colts’ opponent and the exact date of the game will be revealed at a later time.
In 2022, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers triumphed over the Seattle Seahawks in Munich, marking the NFL’s first regular-season game in Germany.
The NFL previously held five American Bowl games at Olympic Stadium from 1990 to 1994 and hosted NFL Europe’s Berlin Thunder from 2003 to 2007.
“Germany represents a significant market for the NFL, with an ever-growing fan base and enthusiasm for the sport,” stated NFL Germany general manager Alexander Steinforth. “We are excited to have the Colts as the first team to play a regular-season game in Berlin in 2025, a city rich in football history that reflects the league’s international growth.”
The NFL designated Berlin as a host city back in December.
Colts owner Jim Irsay expressed pride in being part of this groundbreaking event in such a historic city. “The NFL has evolved into a global brand, and we are eager to promote American football in Germany while expanding the reach of Colts Nation worldwide. This game also offers our Indiana partners a unique chance to connect with German businesses and fans,” he said.
In 2025, the NFL plans to host up to eight regular-season games internationally. Two games will occur in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and one will be held in Madrid at the Bernabéu Stadium. The New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns are set to represent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will also return to Wembley Stadium in London for a “home” game. To date, the NFL has conducted 55 regular-season games globally, with London, Munich, Frankfurt, São Paulo, Mexico City, and Toronto serving as host cities.
