Colorado Secures Unprecedented Insurance Coverage for Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders Ahead of Alamo Bowl Showdown

Colorado adds record insurance coverage for Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders in Alamo Bowl

Colorado has achieved a significant milestone by securing what is believed to be record insurance coverage for quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. This decision allows the star players to complete their college careers in the Alamo Bowl instead of opting out to prepare for the NFL Draft.

While the university has not disclosed the specific amount of insurance coverage due to privacy laws, Coach Deion Sanders and athletic director Rick George confirmed that it is the largest in college football history.

“We have two players who are likely to be the top two picks in the NFL Draft,” Sanders stated on Monday. “The coverage they have received is unprecedented in college football, surpassing any previous records.”

Typically, college programs maintain insurance policies for their athletes in case of injury. However, Colorado has taken it a step further by enhancing disability coverage for its entire roster participating in the Alamo Bowl. Coach Sanders made sure that both his son, Shedeur, and the versatile Hunter received larger policies, reflecting their expected high draft status.

“It was his suggestion to secure disability insurance for our athletes for this game to protect them in case of injury,” George explained. “We collaborated on this initiative, and we are thrilled that all our players will participate in the game. This is how bowl games should operate.”

Colorado, with a record of 9-3 and ranked No. 23 in the CFP, is set to face off against the BYU Cougars, who are 10-2 and ranked No. 17 in the CFP, in the upcoming Alamo Bowl.

In a season where many teams are facing challenges with players opting out of bowl games to pursue the transfer portal or NFL Draft, the Buffaloes have managed to retain all players on their two-deep roster.

Shedeur Sanders has had a standout season, completing 337 of 454 passes for an impressive 3,926 yards and 35 touchdowns. Many scouting services rank him as the top quarterback in this year’s draft.

Hunter, recognized for his exceptional skills as a two-way player, earned the Heisman Trophy. He recorded 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns while also excelling defensively with four interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and limiting opponents to just 22 receptions in 688 defensive snaps.

“They’ve really looked out for us,” said Colorado running back Micah Welch. “Having every teammate here means a lot. Coach Prime ensures that we are well taken care of.”
