Clippers star Kawhi Leonard expected to make season debut vs. Hawks on Sunday

Kawhi Leonard is set to return to the basketball court, signaling excitement for fans and teammates alike.

The LA Clippers have moved Leonard from out to questionable on their injury report, and he is anticipated to make his season debut on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks, according to multiple sources.

Leonard has been recovering from a right knee injury, which has kept him off the court since April 26. That day, he played in Game 3 of the Clippers’ playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks.

Last season, he missed 12 of the Clippers’ final 14 games due to knee inflammation. Despite feeling fit enough to represent USA Basketball at the Paris Olympics this past summer, he was ultimately sent home after concerns about his knee’s ability to withstand the competition. Derrick White took his place on the Olympic roster, which went on to secure the gold medal.

A two-time NBA champion and six-time All-Star, Leonard’s career has been marred by injuries. Over the past eight years, he has missed 290 regular-season games, including the entirety of the 2021-22 season due to ongoing knee issues.

In the previous season, Leonard played in 68 games, marking his highest total since participating in 74 games for the San Antonio Spurs during the 2016-17 season.

Reflecting on his injury struggles, Leonard stated, “This is just my journey. I can’t lay out the perfect script for me. Last year I tried to play as much as possible, felt great and at a certain period of time I couldn’t go. I tried the best that I could, but it’s just my journey. … I motivate a lot of people, so I’ve got to keep doing what I’m doing.”

As a member of the NBA’s 75th anniversary team, Leonard boasts a career average of 20 points per game, showcasing his undeniable talent and impact on the game.
