Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is currently dealing with an ankle injury sustained during the team’s Week 2 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Head coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned that Herbert is “working through” the issue, raising hopes for his return.
Despite not participating in Wednesday’s practice, Harbaugh remains optimistic about Herbert’s chances of starting in the Chargers’ upcoming Week 3 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Crystal ball? I expect him to [play] — he’s getting better every day,” Harbaugh stated regarding Herbert’s status for Week 3, according to NFL.com. He added that a recent meeting with Herbert revealed positive signs, as the quarterback is feeling much better.
Herbert’s previous season was cut short due to a finger injury, and he also played through a rib issue the year before, showcasing his resilience on the field.
Should Herbert be unable to play on Sunday, Harbaugh confirmed that Easton Stick would step in as the starting quarterback. Stick filled in for Herbert during the last four games of the previous season, proving his capability as a reliable backup.
The Week 3 clash between the Chargers and the Steelers features two unexpected 2-0 teams, adding an intriguing layer to the matchup. Pittsburgh will again rely on Justin Fields as Russell Wilson continues to recover from a calf injury.
