Norway’s Viktor Hovland received the most money wagered to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship at BetMGM and is the sportsbook’s biggest liability.
Hovland is also tied with American Will Zatoris for the most bet slips received from BetMGM.
As a result, sportsbook has moved Hovland from +3500 to win the St Jude to +3300 which is a tie for the 13th shortest odds.
Hovland, a three-time PGA Tour winner, attends the event ranked 19th in the FedEx Cup Rankings and ninth in the Official World Golf Rankings. He also achieved a T-4 finish at The Open Championship in his most recent event.
Hovland also has a solid statistical profile for the most part, ranking 19th in strokes won: off-the-tee, 12th in SG: Approach, and 27th in SG: Putting this year. However, his work around the greens remains a significant weakness as he ranks 204th on the SG: Around the Greens for the season.
With Bogey Avoidance and SG Around the Green considered key stats this week, players need to bet on stat fixes in this department of Hovland.
For comparison, he posted a SG of -0.041: all around the green, so there is room for improvement up to the -0.801 mark this season.

- Harald Varner III (+10000)
- Sahith Theegala (+10000)
It’s always interesting to see bookmakers increasing odds for golfers despite being popular targets as Cameron Smith, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm have all seen their odds increase despite having high percentages in both tickets and handles took rank. To a lesser extent, Cameron Young and Jordan Spieth also qualify.
Seeing Will Zlatoris popular again this week comes as no surprise, especially after his improved putting performance last week. He gained .856 shots on the greens over the week, which is an encouraging mark after losing 2.685 overall at the Wyndham Championship. In addition, Zalatoris will plant Bermuda greens for the second week in a row.
