Barcelona routs Real Madrid again to win Spanish Super Cup final 5-2

Barcelona routs Real Madrid again to win the Spanish Super Cup final 5-2, leaving the Madrid squad in a state of disarray. This latest defeat marks another chapter in the ongoing rivalry, as Madrid sought redemption but faced disappointment once more.

The match, held in Saudi Arabia, saw Madrid suffer a heavy loss following their earlier 4-0 defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish league back in October. This string of losses has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike about the team’s current form.

Kylian Mbappé initially gave Madrid hope by scoring early in his second clasico, but Barcelona quickly turned the tide. Goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha—who netted two—and Alejandro Balde sealed the deal for the Catalan club, showcasing their attacking prowess.

Rodrygo managed to score for Madrid in the second half, taking advantage of a red card shown to Barcelona’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny shortly after the break. However, the goal did little to change the outcome as Barcelona maintained control of the match.

Atletico’s Record

In contrast to Madrid’s struggles, Atletico Madrid celebrated a historic achievement by setting a club record with 14 consecutive victories after a 1-0 win over Osasuna. This victory propelled them to the top of the Spanish league standings at the halfway mark.

Julián Álvarez’s goal in the 55th minute at the Metropolitano Stadium secured the milestone win, giving Atletico a crucial one-point lead over second-place Madrid while maintaining a six-point advantage over third-place Barcelona.

Since October, Atletico has been on a remarkable winning streak, with their only setback being a narrow 1-0 loss to Real Betis on October 27. Eight of those victories have come in league play, highlighting their dominance in the current season.

Diego Simeone praised the team’s hard work and dedication, stating, “It’s an important streak to show the growth of this club.” His words reflect the positive momentum within Atletico as they continue to build on their success.

On the other hand, Osasuna is facing challenges, having gone seven consecutive league games without a win, placing them in 11th position. Meanwhile, Getafe managed to secure a 2-1 victory against Las Palmas, who sit just above them in the standings.
