Auburn's player of the year candidate Johni Broome suffers 'significant' ankle sprain

Auburn’s player of the year candidate, Johni Broome, has sustained a “significant sprain” to his left ankle during the Tigers’ recent victory over South Carolina. Head coach Bruce Pearl announced that Broome, who leads the team in scoring, will undergo an MRI to assess the severity of the injury.

“He’s got a significant sprain,” Pearl remarked. “Once we return to Auburn tonight, we’ll arrange for him to have an MRI to check for any additional issues.”

“Losing our player of the year makes it tough to generate offense. Johni is a key player for us,” Pearl stated following the Tigers’ strong start, now standing at 3-0 in the SEC and 15-1 overall. “We’ll wait to hear from the doctor, and just like in the second half of the game, it’s time for the next man to step up.”

In a pivotal moment, Dylan Cardwell’s dunk helped secure the win against the Gamecocks, and Pearl highlighted him as a potential replacement for Broome. Other players like Chaney Johnson, Chris Moore, and Ja’Heim Hudson may also need to step into larger roles to maintain the team’s momentum.
