Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has officially been added to the NBA All-Star Game roster as an injury replacement.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement on Monday, confirming Young’s selection after Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was sidelined due to a calf injury.
Initially, Young expressed disappointment over his exclusion from the All-Star Game, feeling overlooked during both the starter balloting and coaches’ reserve selections. He humorously remarked on social media, “It’s getting ‘Traed’ at this point,” coining a term that reflects his frustration.
As the current leader in assists for the season, Young’s inclusion marks his fourth All-Star selection. The All-Star Game, which has transformed into a mini-tournament format, is scheduled for Sunday in San Francisco.
He will take Antetokounmpo’s place on Team Chuck, an eight-player squad drafted by TNT analyst Charles Barkley. Antetokounmpo was the fourth player chosen among the 24 selected by Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith.
Young joins a diverse roster that showcases international talent. He will play alongside notable players such as Denver’s Nikola Jokić (Serbia), Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), and San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama (France), among others.
Leading the league in assists per game, Young averages an impressive 11.4, significantly ahead of Jokić’s 10.3. This performance underscores his pivotal role in the Hawks’ offense.
This marks the second consecutive year that Young has been added to the All-Star roster as an injury replacement, following his appearances in 2020 and 2022.
On the other side, Davis is set to join Team Shaq, which features notable players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.
The remaining All-Stars will compete on Team Kenny, including rising talents like Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, and Cade Cunningham.
