AP All-Big Ten honors have been awarded to standout players Dillon Gabriel, Abdul Carter, and coach Curt Cignetti, each recognized for their exceptional performances this season. Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson and Penn State tight end Tyler Warren received unanimous first-team selections from a voting panel comprising 21 media members dedicated to covering the conference.
The first-team roster highlights the talent within the conference, featuring five players from Iowa, four from Ohio State, and three each from the conference champion Oregon and Indiana. This diverse representation showcases the competitive nature of the league.
Among the repeat first-team selections are Minnesota offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery, Ohio State guard Donovan Jackson, and Iowa linebacker Jay Higgins. Notably, Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau, who was a first-team pick in both 2022 and 2023, has been placed on the second team this year.
Dillon Gabriel, a transfer from Oklahoma, has made a significant impact, leading the unbeaten and top-ranked Oregon Ducks to the Big Ten championship in their inaugural season within the league. Gabriel’s impressive statistics include an average of 274 yards passing per game, 28 touchdown passes against just six interceptions, and a remarkable 73.2% completion rate, which ranks second nationally.
On the defensive side, Abdul Carter stands out as the leader in the Big Ten with 19.5 tackles for loss, while his 10 sacks mark the highest total for a Penn State player since Carl Nassib recorded 15.5 in 2015.
Curt Cignetti has remarkably transformed the Indiana Hoosiers in his first season as head coach. After a challenging 2023 season where the team secured only three wins, they have rebounded spectacularly, achieving double-digit victories for the first time and entering the College Football Playoff with an impressive 11-1 record, set to face Notre Dame on December 20.
Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith has earned the title of Newcomer of the Year, setting multiple school freshman records with 57 receptions, 934 receiving yards, 10 touchdown catches, and three games with over 100 receiving yards.
