Steve Kerr's 90-year-old mother among many to lose home in LA wildfires

Steve Kerr’s 90-year-old mother is among the many individuals who have tragically lost their homes as devastating wildfires sweep through the Los Angeles region.

“My mom is in good hands, but her house is gone,” the Golden State Warriors coach remarked Thursday evening, just before his team’s game against the Detroit Pistons. “I’ve been in constant communication with my siblings about the situation.”

Kerr shared that his mother, Ann, evacuated her home in Pacific Palisades after receiving evacuation orders earlier in the week.

“That’s my hometown,” he expressed. “Almost all of my friends from there have lost their homes—homes where their families lived for generations. Our high school is gone. The entire town appears to have been wiped out. It’s surreal and heartbreaking.”

“Fortunately, nearly everyone managed to escape. But it’s difficult to imagine how Pacific Palisades will rebuild and regain its vibrant community spirit. The situation is shocking.”

Pacific Palisades, located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of downtown Los Angeles, is characterized by its hillside streets lined with closely packed homes, winding roads that hug the Santa Monica Mountains, and beautiful beaches along the Pacific Ocean.

Rapidly spreading flames are consuming homes and businesses as nearly 180,000 residents evacuate from smoke-filled canyons in picturesque neighborhoods known for their celebrity inhabitants.

Many of the raging wildfires ignited on Tuesday and remained uncontained by Thursday, driven by powerful Santa Ana winds.

Tragically, at least five lives have been lost, and thousands of structures have suffered damage or complete destruction.
