Eagles QB Jalen Hurts clears concussion protocol, will start vs. Green Bay

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has successfully cleared the NFL concussion protocol and is set to lead the Philadelphia Eagles in their NFC wild-card matchup against the Green Bay Packers this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET, broadcast live on FOX and the FOX Sports app.

Hurts has been sidelined since sustaining a concussion during a game against Washington on December 22. His return marks a significant boost for the Eagles as they aim for playoff success.

Head Coach Nick Sirianni confirmed on Friday that Hurts is “ready to roll” after returning to practice this week. “He [has] had a good week of practice,” Sirianni noted, emphasizing the importance of Hurts’ preparation leading into the game.

Throughout the season, Hurts showcased impressive skills, throwing for 2,903 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. Notably, he managed just one interception following the Eagles’ Week 5 bye. His unique ability to execute the “tush push” play has contributed to his 14 rushing touchdowns this season, underscoring his dual-threat capability.

Sirianni emphasized the team’s cautious approach regarding Hurts’ health, stating, “We’re always careful with him. He’s our quarterback, and we always want to prioritize his well-being. You always feel better when Jalen Hurts is on the field.” The coaching staff is committed to protecting him during designed runs.

Wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has made 67 receptions for 1,079 yards this season, missed practice on Thursday due to a knee issue and for rest. Despite this, Sirianni expressed confidence that Hurts would quickly regain his rhythm with Brown and fellow star receiver DeVonta Smith, given their extensive experience together.

“They’ve got a lot of reps together prior to the last couple of weeks,” Sirianni explained. “That’s not a concern of mine. I feel like we’re in a good spot going into this game.”

In their season opener, Hurts completed 20 of 34 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, leading the Eagles to a narrow 34-29 victory over the Packers. This upcoming game will be a crucial test as the Eagles look to capitalize on Hurts’ return to the field.
