Didier Deschamps to step down as France coach after 2026 World Cup, reports say

Didier Deschamps is set to step down as the coach of France after the 2026 World Cup, as reported by various French media outlets. This announcement is expected on Wednesday.

According to sources like L’Equipe and RMC Sport, the 56-year-old coach will conclude his tenure when his contract ends in the summer of 2026.

Deschamps, who famously lifted the World Cup trophy as a player, took charge of the French national team in July 2012. Under his leadership, France claimed the World Cup title in 2018, triumphing over Croatia in the final.

In the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar, France reached the final again but faced a heartbreaking defeat against Argentina in a thrilling match.

Looking ahead, Europe will send 16 teams to the inaugural 48-team World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in the summer of 2026.
