The Golden State Warriors are finalizing a trade to acquire Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schröder, as reported by ESPN on Saturday. This move aims to enhance their roster as they aim for another championship run.
In this reported deal, the Warriors will send De’Anthony Melton along with three second-round picks to the Nets in exchange for Schröder and a second-round pick. This strategic exchange highlights the Warriors’ commitment to strengthening their lineup.
At 31 years old, Schröder is enjoying a resurgence this season with the Nets, averaging 18.4 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game over 23 starts. His addition would significantly bolster the backcourt of a Warriors team currently in the title conversation, holding a record of 14-10, which places them as the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference.
De’Anthony Melton, who joined the Warriors on a one-year, $12.8 million contract during the offseason, has been sidelined for the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a left ACL sprain, prompting the Warriors to seek a replacement like Schröder.
Schröder was acquired by the Nets in a trade with the Toronto Raptors last February, signing a two-year, $25.4 million contract that is set to expire this summer. This makes him a valuable asset as the trade season heats up.
The unofficial start of the NBA’s trade season is on Sunday, December 15, when most players who signed contracts last summer will become eligible for trades. The official NBA trade deadline is February 6, adding urgency to the Warriors’ efforts to finalize this deal.
