Kam Jones scores 32 points to lead No. 5 Marquette past No. 11 Wisconsin, 88-74

Kam Jones scored 32 points to lead No. 5 Marquette to an impressive 88-74 victory over No. 11 Wisconsin on Saturday, showcasing his scoring prowess and determination on the court.

Following their first loss of the season earlier this week at Iowa State, the Golden Eagles (9-1) rallied together, with David Joplin, Chase Ross, and Stevie Mitchell contributing a combined total of 37 points. The team shot an efficient 50% (31-for-62) from the field, demonstrating their offensive capabilities.

In contrast, the Badgers (8-2) faced their second consecutive defeat, despite strong performances from Max Klesmit, who scored 22 points, and John Blackwell, who added 17 points.

Wisconsin held a narrow lead of 39-37 at halftime, with both teams shooting 11-for-25 from the field during the first half, setting the stage for an intense second half.

After halftime, Marquette quickly gained momentum, sinking their first two 3-pointers. They seized a 53-47 advantage with 15:41 remaining. Chase Ross’s layup extended the lead to seven points at 13:07, prompting a timeout from Wisconsin.

The Golden Eagles maintained their dominance, pushing their lead to 15 points after Mitchell completed a three-point play, bringing the score to 70-55 with 8:49 left in the game.

KEY MOMENT

A pivotal moment came when Jones scored back-to-back baskets with 15:05 remaining, transforming a tied game into a four-point lead that Marquette would not relinquish.

KEY STAT

Wisconsin struggled with ball control, committing 16 turnovers that Marquette capitalized on for 18 points, while also being outscored 44-28 in the paint.

SERIES-LY SPEAKING

This victory marked a significant turnaround for Marquette, ending a three-game losing streak in the rivalry that dates back to 1917. It was their largest margin of victory over Wisconsin since a previous 82-63 win in 2017. Despite the loss, Wisconsin still leads the all-time series, 71-60, but Marquette holds a 42-30 advantage in games played in Milwaukee.
