Creighton beats Kansas 76-63, Bluejays' second win over No. 1 team in two seasons

Creighton has triumphed over Kansas with a score of 76-63, marking the Bluejays’ second victory against a top-ranked team in just two seasons. Pop Isaacs emerged as the star of the night, delivering an impressive performance with a season-high of 27 points and matching his career record by sinking six 3-pointers.

Despite being down by 13 points, Kansas managed to narrow the gap to just one early in the second half. However, Isaacs quickly responded with two consecutive 3-pointers, helping the Bluejays (6-3) regain control and secure their second consecutive win over a top-ranked team, following their triumph over Connecticut 85-66 in Omaha last February.

The atmosphere in the arena was electric, with students storming the court at the final buzzer as flames erupted from the goal standards, celebrating a monumental upset.

Isaacs’ stellar shooting overshadowed the much-anticipated clash between two of college basketball’s top big men: Ryan Kalkbrenner, standing at 7-foot-1, and Kansas’ 7-2 Hunter Dickinson. Isaacs showcased his versatility, going 10-of-15 from the field and adding seven rebounds and four assists, marking his most significant performance since transferring from Texas Tech.

Kalkbrenner, who had been sidelined due to a lower-body injury, and Steven Ashworth, still recovering from an ankle sprain, each contributed 17 points to the Bluejays’ cause. Meanwhile, the Jayhawks struggled offensively, failing to take the lead throughout the game. Dajuan Harris led Kansas with 15 points, while AJ Storr and Zeke Mayo chipped in with 12 points each, but the team only managed to shoot 36% from the field.
