James Harden moves into No. 2 on NBA's career 3-point list

James Harden moves into No. 2 on the NBA’s all-time 3-point list.

The Los Angeles Clippers guard achieved this milestone by sinking his 2,974th 3-pointer during a game against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night, surpassing the legendary Ray Allen.

Harden’s record-breaking shot came with 6:09 remaining in the first quarter, as he found the net from the right wing. He now trails only Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who leads the league with 3,782 3-pointers.

Ray Allen accomplished his 2,973 3-pointers over 1,300 games, while Harden reached this milestone in just 1,086 games.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue praised both Harden and Allen, stating, “Both of those guys are extraordinary shooters.”

Harden is also one of only three players in NBA history to achieve over 300 3-pointers in a single season, having made 378 during the 2018-19 season. The other two players are Curry, who has accomplished this feat five times, and Klay Thompson, who recorded 301 in the 2022-23 season.

In addition to his 3-point prowess, Harden ranks 15th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and 13th in assists. The only player to appear in the top 15 for scoring, assists, and 3-pointers made is LeBron James, who leads the league in career points and ranks fourth in assists and eighth in 3-pointers.
