San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey will be inactive for the highly anticipated “Monday Night Football” clash against the New York Jets.
The team has officially ruled McCaffrey out due to ongoing calf and Achilles injuries.
McCaffrey sustained his injury early in training camp, causing him to miss four weeks of practice. Although he returned to the field last week and expressed optimism about playing, he was unexpectedly scratched from the lineup.
At 28 years old, this marks McCaffrey’s first game missed due to injury since he joined the 49ers in Week 7 of the 2022 NFL season.
Last season, McCaffrey was a standout performer, leading the NFL with 2,023 yards from scrimmage and tying for the league lead with 21 touchdowns, earning him the AP Offensive Player of the Year award. In his absence, Jordan Mason is anticipated to shoulder the running back responsibilities.
On the other side of the field, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will make his return to regular-season action after recovering from a season-ending Achilles injury sustained in the previous year’s opener.
Kickoff for the San Francisco-New York matchup is set for 8:15 p.m. ET, promising an exciting evening for football fans.
